5 Easy Steps to Mindfulness: How to Live Better in the Moment

5 Easy Steps to Mindfulness

“People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don’t even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child—our own two eyes. All is a miracle.” – Thich Nhat Hanh

Our crazy and chaotic world is full of noise. We hardly hear our inner self. All the things that we do, we do automatically without second guessing. And now more than ever we need to learn and practice mindfulness.

The more we learn and understand ourselves the better outcomes are in our daily life.

5 Easy Steps to Mindfulness

1. Enjoy The Silence

There’s this song that I love called “Enjoy the silence”. And for years I challenged myself to really understand what it was about. I remember feeling terrified when I was left alone in silence. Enjoying it was out of a question. Whenever I went about my day, I would plug my ears with headphones and listen to music. All the thoughts and ideas seemed louder in silence. And I would have done anything possible not to face them all at once.

But I didn’t know back then that silence is vital for understanding. We need that silence to step back and reflect on the things that are happening around us.

I didn’t know that the calmness and serenity I was so eager to experience would come from within. And then I finally gave in into trying being present in silence. I came to realise how great it was to sit and observe the flow of thoughts. Just sitting and observing in silence.

2. Observe Your Thoughts & Actions

Some actions lead to better outcomes, other actions – to different ones. Observe your thoughts and actions. When you understand why you do things the way you do, especially if the results are not what you want…  it gives you the opportunity to make better choices in the future. Ask your mind to show you the other way around and out of the situation and see what it has to offer.

3. When Solitude is Not An Option

It is good to sit comfortably in a shell for a while and to learn more about yourself in solitude. Embarking on a journey of meeting new people and absorbing what they have to teach us – it’s a brave step forward. Every person we meet in life knows something we don’t know. The more new people we meet, the more chances we get to learn and understand more.

4. Be Kind to Yourself

Be kind to yourself. Be grateful for the things you’ve gone through while enriching your life experience. Be proud of how far you’ve come from the point of your beginning. Look and step into the future with hope…

Go confidently in the directions of your dreams

5. The Inner Dialogue Mode

Keep that inner connection with yourself and make it a bit stronger each day. Practice meditation. Reflect on the flow of your thoughts. If your life seems to be complicated – try to release it from all unnecessary clutter that it comes with. Replace it with fruitful thoughts that you can rely on to move forward with confidence and peace.

You have all the power to change your thoughts. Practice mindfulness and better outcomes will follow.
