One wise friend of mine once said: You will never find your health at the pharmacy store, you can only create it yourself. I heard that many years ago and didn’t pay that much attention to it back then. But something changed dramatically in the way I see things and the world around me. Something changed when I saw people losing the real wealth that is health, and it made me wonder, what is it that we can do now, to enhance our chances to hold the horse of our health steady? What’s the easiest thing to begin with?! Should we start with running?
I was never a big fan of running. Or any sport for that matter. At least I thought I wasn’t before I tried. I always had that annoying habit of jumping into conclusion without trying a new thing thinking that I won’t like it. My energy levels were running low after a long British winter, so I decided to give running a try. And not surprisingly, I liked it. Even when my tired mind was trying hard to plant yet another reason not to run every morning by “saying” something like: “But it’s so nice and warm here under the blanket, why would you want to go outside and face a harsh wind blowing from the Thames? Why bother. Sleep, stay lethargic” I would simply rise, put my workout clothes on and without any second guessing go out to face the day! Why?! Because I have far stronger reasons to run, than not to…
Start Running Today. Before you start running, consider this:
- If you are planning to go running after you had food, make sure at least 2-3 hours have passed if you want to loose some weight. Therefore it’s better to run in the morning when you are lighter.
- If you run in the park, try switching off the music player even for a minute to hear the birds tweeting. It is a scientifically proven fact, that songs of birds have a positive impact on a nervous system.
- Try to avoid running along busy roads. Running increases all of the processes in your body and lack of good environment (ecology) may cause accelerated intake of exhaust fumes.
- If you have been inactive for some time, consult your doctor before starting to push yourself too hard. You can, of course, go out for a jog any time, though!
If you still need convincing and are looking for reasons to start running, here are my main seven reasons that helped my motivation.

1. Easy Stress Relief
I believe that each and every one of us experiences stress associated with work on daily basis. Running is a quick helper in relaxing the muscles of the back that were gripped tightly by stress. It’s ideal for anybody whose stress levels are very high during the day. 25 minutes of jogging relaxes you much more efficiently than a few hours spent in front of the TV.
Running does not take that much time to give up other activities and at the same time allows you to spend some time alone with your thoughts which are extremely refreshing for the whole nervous system. So run your stress away!
2. Energy Boost
You might have thought that sport is tiring? Right?! No. It is, in fact, a huge energy booster. What is life?! It’s an action. Where action lies, there’s life. Any physical activity, especially running, increases adrenaline rush which is a natural energy boost that’s in charge of our mood. The more you run, the better your mood will be, and you will feel great and recharged fully of vital energy and happiness.
3. Simple and Effective
Running is simple and effective. Just get yourself comfortable trainers and running clothes that you like and that might put you in a festive mood with their bright and happy colors and you can run anywhere! Therefore, running is one of the most popular aerobic workouts. It’s simple, yet it’s challenging depending on your motivation and setting targets. Running is the easiest sport possible. While running, you can control the level of effort you apply, and it’s relatively easy to keep the same pace of the whole exercise.
If you have no idea how to get started with the sport, but you have a strong motivation and desire to get involved – running might be a good start. Later, you can safely switch to another sport or practice while combining running with something else you like. Also, you would not have to face monthly charges at the gym you might not have fully committed to yourself. Running is easy. You don’t have to learn how to do that. It’s natural. Just get out from your house, pick up a good trail in the park or along the river and run. The only thing you need to have to start running is desire and good training shoes.
4. Oxygen Hungry?! Want to sleep better?
Have you ever been in a hot conference room yawning without seeing an end to it, sleepy and tired in the middle of the day? It’s all thanks to the lack of the oxygen in the brain. However dull your conference call might be, it’ doesn’t necessarily mean you are yawning because you are bored. No. Yawning and sleepiness are honest attempts of your brain to enrich itself with the vital oxygen it needs to work swiftly. It is also a scientifically proven fact that any exercises on a regular basis are a true way to improve the quality of your sleep and rid of your insomnia for good.
5. Strengthen Your Heart
Above all, the heart is a muscle. It needs to be exercised. Running is the quickest and the easiest way to cardiovascular fitness. It strengthens your heart dramatically.
It decreases the cholesterol level in your system, the chances of a heart attack and the number of general check-ups at the doctor’s office. A day has 1440 minutes, and it is a good idea to spent at least 20 of it exercising for your good health. At the end of the day, the only real wealth is our health.

The happier you are when looking at yourself in the mirror, the higher your self-esteem goes. There is nothing like being in the comfort of your skin, to wear clothes of an average size and not the size of a baby elephant that is. Get your sexy back! Run for better endurance and stamina. You will feel better! You will get a natural glow, and your skin will look fantastic! Healthy look attracts compliments and improves your self-esteem. What are you waiting for?
7. Live Longer by Staying Active
Think about children for a second. What is it that is so admirable about them? Why do they always rush and run like some busy bees in the meadow? The more they do it, the more energy they get and the more fun they have! Somehow, with age, people forget that movement – is life and it’s very precious. It is entirely worth it to pay extra attention to your health to stay active to keep it up. Always. Do it for yourself. Be better than yesterday, for your good.
