Everything I learned I learned from the movies. ― Audrey Hepburn
I always loved movies as far as I can remember myself. I was always looking for something fun, meaningful and insightful. I never changed. I watched quite a few movies recently and here are the top 3 of the month on my list. If you haven’t watched them all yet, I highly recommend to put them on your list this weekend.
What to Watch Over the Weekend: 3 Suggestions
1. The Burning Plain
Starring Charlize Theron & Jennifer Lawrence.
At first, when I read the plot, I was hesitant as it suggested that this movie is rather dark and heavy and I normally tend to avoid topics like that. But I trust Charlize Theron and her performance and I believe that she is one of the finest actresses so I gave it a go.
I first discarded this picture for its dark plot but what I saw was a powerful message never to be forgotten. It is about human nature and the strive to find happiness, to feel alive while living… It’s about things that happened in the past and what it’s like when you cannot let go and forgive yourself… So you end up punishing yourself in the present. Forgiving yourself is the hardest thing but we need to learn that. This movie simply reminds us about the power of forgiveness and moving on.
2. One Day
Starring Anne Hathaway & Jim Sturgess
Have you ever watched something just because you have a hunch? This is this case. Normally I would go through endless lists of suggestions in order to pick something meaningful giving a high brow to anything that “doesn’t measure up to my standard”… but this is was a completely different story. I just saw a picture from the movie with a quote and it pinned me. And something compelling was about the whole thing. So I watched it yesterday and I was blown away.
The movie is funny in some places and very romantic, but absolutely not in a cheesy way. That’s what I liked the most, I guess. It is about love, friendship for life and all the little things that make our life great. This movie will stay forever with me as a warm memory in my heart. A true pearl of light.
3. Everybody’s Fine
Starring Robert De Niro, Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale
Don’t judge the book by its cover – this is the case. I was browsing looking for something and I dismissed this movie because the cover simply didn’t grab my attention and I didn’t even recognize De Niro on its cover…
Can I just say something completely honest? I absolutely adore Robert De Niro and I consider this man a genius, absolutely and utterly talented actor of all times. And to this day I’ve seen nothing starring him that I wouldn’t like.
So I gave ‘Everybody’s Fine’ a try. It’s a family movie. It is about that special connection we all share and how valuable time spent together really is. Yes, careers are important, but what is the most important is family, loving relationships and TIME we give to each other. Time is the most valuable thing. Time equals love.
The idea of the movie is simple, but the whole picture is SO MUCH MORE than that. This is the movie I would definitely recommend watching to my friends. This is the movie I would revisit anytime. The message in it will never get old and the reminder it gives is simply PRICELESS.
