How to Get What You Want Out of Life

Swaying in a hammock underneath the rustling palm trees is nice, but waiting for a million dollars to fall in your lap at a snap of your fingers hardly ever happens just like that, don’t we know? Do you know how to get what you want out of life? Do you want to make your dream a reality? Sure thing, you do. But, how – that’s a million-dollar question we are about to answer.

Sadly, we aren’t born with all the right answers taking us closer to achieving what we wish to have in life. I mean, most people aren’t even sure about what they want. So what do you do to “manifest” or attract good luck and favorable circumstances? That free parking space closer to the entrance, especially when it rains cats and dogs. That big fat, prosperous contract. Or that perfect loving relationship. The truth is, success always leaves clues.

How to Get What You Want Out of Life

What do ALL successful people have in common?

Well, successful people have a sound system in place that helps them to always be on a lookout noticing and using fast-changing circumstances to leverage to achieve their goals.

And here’s that system explained.

First, decide to have what you want, even if you aren’t clear about how to get it yet

I know this sounds overly simplistic, but hear me out.

Consider driving a car at night with your headlights on. Your GPS is guiding you because you’ve set your specific destination. The only thing you see ahead is the next hundred yards and you don’t need to worry about seeing your entire route, just the next hundred yards, and then the next hundred yards; that’s how you get from point A to point B eventually.

Let’s face it; most of us feel a bit timid when it comes to being specific about what we want. Please avoid saying things like, “Wouldn’t it be nice if…” or “Let’s see what happens when…”. Be comfortable with the fact that you don’t know HOW to get there yet, but remember that it’s great that you already understand what you want.

Let’s start using affirmative language. For example:

  • I intend to live a life of financial and personal freedom before my 40th birthday.
  • I intend to go on a six-months-long vacation around the world.
  • I intend to have a perfect partner in my business and/or personal life.

You get the idea.

But let’s start small just for now.

“I intend to have an avocado salad for lunch,” is a very definitive statement.

“I intend to go on vacation to Tuscany for two weeks in July,” is also an exact statement.

Once you’ve mastered this firmly decisive language, you are well ready to move onto other things you’ve got on your wish list.

Second, become crystal clear about the results

Picture the details of your desired outcomes. Focus on what you do want instead of what you don’t want. Visualize yourself in the situation you want to create in the fast-approaching future.

How does it feel to be there?

Let’s start small, shall we?

Here’s an example:

When you order that avocado salad in a restaurant, you pick the type of vegetables, maybe adding some feta cheese, lettuce, and the mustard-based salad dressing. You then picture how the salad will taste, look, and smell when it finally arrives right in front of you at your table. Then and there, you are crystal clear about what you want

Beyond everything, when you think about your avocado salad, miraculously you don’t have a mental image of ham and cheese sandwich in your mind, do you?

The same principle works with more important things on your wish-list, like your financial and personal freedom, finding your perfect partner, or creating a generally happy life you enjoy living.

Imagine the look, the feel, the texture, and the sound of the ideal situation for you in your life.

Stay slightly detached from the process.

The thing is, many people feel stuck because they don’t know the ‘how’ to get there yet. The truth is, your “how to do it,” instructions will unravel once you have clearly defined what you want in life.

Let’s talk about ordering your avocado salad for a bit longer. After you place your order, you never have to worry about how that salad will turn up. I mean, every restaurant prepares food differently, but the outcome always stays the same –– it arrives at your table ready for you to feast on it.

Calmly expect that it will happen

Confidently set your expectation that what you want will turn up. Of course, it may not crop up in the way you imagined or at your precise time schedule.

Some possibilities you hoped were a sure thing may evaporate. Yes, you might experience frustration and incredible impatience, trying to control the outcomes. But when you choose to believe that “everything happens for a reason,” this process will be a whole lot easier.

What if the avocado salad didn’t appear at all? Why force it?! What if the lettuce in that salad gone rotten, and you could have gotten food poisoning or worse, “disaster pants”?!

We can only connect the dots looking backwards. Think back at the times when life had in store something much more valuable and suitable for you.

Keep your mind open

Most likely than not, the winding path towards what you want will unfold in the ways you could never imagine before. Make it your goal to explore the opportunities in depth.

Release your judgment of how things should be because your past experiences ≠ what will pan out in the future. Also, consider the possibility that the very thing you might see as an obstacle might be the very next stepping stone you need to hop from to get what you want.

Often, people, circumstances, and the right resources will show up, but you might miss the connection. Remember the avocado salad example? What if you were right on your way to deliver a formidable public speaking performance, and not getting that what could have been notorious avocado salad saved you from giving a less than stellar performance?

Keep your eyes on the goal, and know that things will unfold in the best possible way.

The Power of Gratitude

Now think of all the things you already have in your life, how does it make you feel?

Do you ever pause feeling thankful for all the good you already have?

How often do you see challenges as opportunities to grow

When you practice being grateful for specific events in your life, including the obstacles, even when you don’t understand why they appear on your path, your natural ability to manifest what you want accelerates virtually to the speed of thought.

You CAN get what you want but be ready to face challenges that may occur on your way.
In the end, it all comes back down to your choice. Choose to get what you want, believe in your abilities, trust the process, and it will happen for you.
