Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it. Always work with it, not against it. –Eckhart Tolle
There’s always something that could be standing between you and your happy place.
Whether it’s the weather, your work or your general surroundings, such obstacles can get in the way and drain you of your positive energy. Don’t let them!
From here on out, use the following six simple tricks in order to combat your blues and enjoy the world more each and every day.
6 Things You Can Do Today to Enjoy Your Life More
Prioritize Physical Comfort
The comfort of your physical body, so-called “outer shell”, is of the utmost importance in making your entire being happy and content. In order to make yourself as comfortable as possible, make it a priority. Buy supportive shoes. Invest in a good bed (mattress). If you work in an office, personalize it as much as possible. Don’t be ashamed to keep a blanket on your work chair or go to bed early. You’re not going to be happy if you’re cold, hungry and tired. Make yourself comfortable and reap the benefits.
Another aspect of physical comfort is maintaining your ideal body weight. Carrying around extra pounds is bad for your joints as well as your organs, making your body inefficient. Exercising will not only help you lose the weight, but it will also release endorphins to boot.
Listen to Music
Music therapy has become a popular method of healing, and for good reason. Nothing can compare to the power of music. Even on the worst of days, certain tunes are capable of lifting one’s spirits. When it comes to songs that work best, no two people will share the same playlist. Take the time to create one that works for you, and then listen to it. Often.
Make a List of Daily Goals
Make a list each morning of the things you want to get done that day. List every little thing – from “buy batteries” to “do an hour of cardio.” All goals are worth noting and, at the end of the day, reflect on what you’ve done. Each accomplishment should be acknowledged. Checking things off is a great way to feel a sense of purpose.
Eat Healthy Foods
Eating well can be expensive. It’s much cheaper, for instance, to eat processed frozen meals over fresh fruits and vegetables. At the end of the day, however, healthy options are worth the extra cost. They’ll make you look and feel fresher. Fuel your body with good, nutritious energy sources, such as raw vegetables, fruits, lean meats and whole grains. Loading up on empty calories like candy and chips will weigh you down and leave you lethargic. After all, you are what you eat.
Interact Face to Face Every Day
More and more people are trading technological connectivity for traditional in-person conversations. Don’t be one of those people. Make it a priority to come in contact with at least one person each day with whom you share a meaningful, positive connection. Interactions like that will leave you with a much greater sense of fulfillment and purpose than those shared over a screen. It honestly doesn’t matter if it’s with a family member, a friend, a co-worker or someone in line at the grocery store. As long as you have a positive exchange, you will benefit.
Embrace Pet Therapy
Finally, behold the healing power of animals. Interact with a dog, cat, rabbit or pig – it doesn’t matter, really – as often as possible. Petting animals are not only soothing, but it makes people happier. Animals, unlike humans, aren’t judgmental or insulting. They’re filled with love, and everyone could use more of that.
