“The surest way to make your dreams come true is to live them.” ― Roy T. Bennett
I’ve celebrated my thirtieth birthday recently on the vacation on the beach. As I turned the round number and I was on vacation, I had some time to self-reflect on the past decade, which was really hilarious! Getting married, flying to Paris for my honeymoon, moving from Europe to India, earning my income as a freelance writer then later as a life coach while working on laptop under the shades of palm leaves, giving a successful motivational speech in Rotterdam three months ago, traveling to beautiful destinations like India, Dubai, France, Vienna, Netherlands,… were the most memorable moments in the past decade.
Nowadays many people (after seeing photos of me traveling or working under the palm trees and on the beach on my Facebook and Instagram profiles) are telling me” “You’re so lucky! If I could have your life!”. Well, I am really very and deeply grateful for all the beautiful things that I’ve been blessed with, but what really got me to the place where I am today was actually a ton of hard work and the courage to go after my dreams…
Dreams Come True, But if You Don’t Ask, the Answer is Always No!
I’ve learned over the years that if you do not ask, the answer will always be NO, wether it is to ask a person you find attractive to meet, or it is a favor you need or the position or potential client you think you would be perfect for and you deeply desire!
If we go after our dreams and give it a try, there is no guaranty that we will make it happen. But, by trying, we will create a possibility for ourselves to make it happen! Bon the other hand, if we do not give it a try, we will not even create that possibility for ourselves, and therefore, the only guarantee we have is that it will never become true for us!
Here are the things you can do (starting today) to get the courage to go after your dreams and stop putting your dream life on hold any longer:
1) Get a Life Coach, Here’s WHY
Working with a life coach will help you to get the clarity about what is it that you really want, can you achieve it and how, and will help you set a workable, realistic, and totally do-able action plan in for achieving your goals. Working with a coach will help you to achieve bigger results, and much sooner, than if you would try to make them happen on your own, you will have the person who has been there and done that to guide you, so will not need to learn on your own mistakes, keep up the motivation you need to conquer your goals and change, and you will avoid wasting your precious time and money in the long run.
2) Start Hanging out With People Who Have Dreams as BIG as Yours
It is very easy to lose the motivation and the courage that we can achieve our dreams while we are listening to people around us telling us that they are impossible or that we have to keep our feet on the ground and be “realistic”! Just because other people cannot do it, doesn’t mean you cannot. It won’t be easy, it will require a lot of hard work, but, yes, it is doable and you need to stick with people who believe in themselves and their own dreams and who believe in you as well!
3) There’s No Shame in Asking for Help
Like Tony Robbins would say, it is never about how many resources we have available, but how resourceful we are! Ask people you know for help in the area of their expertise or power. You need to put your ego out of the equation here. Have your vision and your happiness in mind and don’t let the pride to stop you form reaching out to people who can help you to get where you want to be. We often get to think that we are so worthy or we will be rejected, but like the saying goes: “If you don’t ask, the answer will always be “NO”!
4) You Need to Lose Something to Win Something
You may need to invest your saved money, sell a car or some other belongings, work overtime or cut some expenses in order to afford working with a coach, investing in your dream (blog, website, online magazine, business, education for your dream job… or whatever is your goal and your big vision). You may need to spend many nights working overtime for that promotion or in front of your laptop screen in creating or updating that blog or website, or spend your weekends attending personal growth workshops… You may need to move out of your city or country, leave everything behind and start your life from scratch, in order for you to make your dream happen.
Whatever is that you want to achieve, know that you will need to make sacrifices and that it is OK. That is part of the process and the bigger vision you have, you will need to invest more of your time, money and effort to make it happen. Hard work always pays off, so don’t be afraid of it. It is the road you need to take to reach to your dream (destination) so tighten your seat belt and start enjoying the journey! The moment when you reach there… it will be all worth it, just like the moment when after a long flight or car drive you reach to the beautiful vacation spot… It feels divine, doesn’t it? And your effort and tiredness from traveling vanishes in a moment!
5) Start Small and Before You’re ‘Ready’
If you wait “better time” to go after your dream… well, I have to disappoint you: there won’t be any better time than now. There can only be worse time! Time is passing by, you are getting older, economy is going up and down, you may get married, get pregnant , get divorced, get the promotion or get another job with crazy working hours, or lose your current job… and next year this time you will most probably regret that you didn’t start today! You have to start with what you have, whatever small it is, and build it up over time, as you get more resourceful and start sooner rather than later.
Once you start working on your goal and making the changes in your life for better, things will align and build up, one at the time. All you need to do is to decide and take that leap of faith!
So, what are you waiting for?
